if it's not vampires, it's ghosts.
Milo decided to turn the TV and the DVD player on last night at about 0530...I awoke to Zach Braff (which I wouldn't mind if he was whispering in my ear, but he wasn't; he was being all loud in the living room with Turk).
I'm getting used to the shenanigans, so it barely fazed me...but it did take awhile to get back to sleep.

so tired

I've been fighting vampires for the last TWO nights.

and they weren't the civilized Anne-Rice-varieties either...they were nasty, snarly looking creatures. they never spoke, nothing i could understand anyway...

they wake me up. they scratch their dirty fingernails along my skin and I'm always being dragged around by these two in particular. they never let me save anyone. i've tried to escape, but i think they like having me around (those two).

If you're in a war, instead of throwing a hand grenade at the enemy, throw one of those small pumpkins. Maybe it'll make everyone think how stupid war is, and while they are thinking, you can throw a real grenade at them.

Cheese is made by coagulating milk to give curds which are then separated from the liquid, whey, after which they can be processed and matured to produce a wide variety of cheeses. Milk is coagulated by the addition of rennet. The active ingredient of rennet is the enzyme, chymosin (also known as rennin). The usual source of rennet is the stomach of slaughtered newly-born calves.
Rennet is usually sourced from the abomasum (fourth stomach) of newly-born calves. Here, chymosin aids the digestion and absorption of milk. Adult cows do not have this enzyme. Chymosin is extracted by washing and drying the stomach lining, which is then cut into small pieces and macerated in a solution of boric acid or brine at 30°C for 4-5 days.
...is why I try to find cheese sans rennet.

Vegetarian cheeses are made with rennets of non-animal origin. In the past, fig leaves, melon, wild thistle and safflower have all supplied plant rennets for cheese making. However, most widely available vegetarian cheeses are made using rennet produced by fermentation of the fungus Mucor miehei. Vegetarian cheese may also be made using a rennet from the bacteria Bacillus subtilis or Bacillus prodigiosum.

ADDENDUM 11 JANUARY 2006: Yesterday I learned that cheese has to have one of the following to make it "stick and hold together": rennet, vinegar or lemon. "Something acidic," says the Italian grocer. They let me try all these homemade cheeses they make there (at the Italian market near where I live) and none of them had rennet. i was trying to find a hard cheese without rennet, but they didn't have any. Guess I'll have to get it from where I always do. At least I know their ricotta and some other names I don't remember are rennet-free. I bought their homemade spinach/ricotta stuffed shells in tomato sauce though. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm...

as I usually am...
Know what works great in a pickle to make sure you're barette-ing all the right strands? Ye olde camera phone.
I hate me for doing that, but I wasn't sure how the barette-placement:stray hair ratio was holding out.
Oh, shut up...
----------
CBC radio this a.m.: The question for callers was about cell phone etiquette.
This assface calls in glorifying how wonderful he and how wife are because they don't have any of that "modern technology [like cell phones and call waiting]" and "my wife is an engineer and I do things where I have to get a hold of people by specific times too and we STILL don't own cells". "And they're dangerous, especially for teenagers in their developmental stage."
*blink*
How is this relevant to phone etiquette?
Who the eff cares?
And is an engineer's time so high-in-demand that they SHOULD have a cell phone, BUT they're being characteristically 'poignant' [read:
anal] about being busy AND about ~choosing~ not to have one...Thereby, actually making their lives less efficient by having to get to a land line (oh...sacred land line!) to check their messages. They have to carry around scads of torn-papers with phone numbers or a thick filofax stuffed with business cards to have their contacts' information on hand (cuz they wouldn't own a PDA or anything like THAT either); how much time do they waste by having to get to office or home to use the phone?
Bah!
I am one busy grrl. I recently got myself a Palm, I have a cell phone: I have no ear cancer, I can safely operate either form of 'modern technology' and I'm not an assclown.

I brought one perfume with me when I went to work in Africa a few years ago. Enough to last too, for the duration. When I came back, I think I was given some for a birthday or something too. So, I still have some. I put the stuff on this morning and whoa! do the senses ever play tricks on ya! Plus, smell is my most attuned sense.
I had this rush of memories invade me for a few seconds, all at once, like I just got tackled by a quarterback or something. I remember walking down the dirt paths on the way to work (before I bought a car) and the same people I'd see each morning; and the dog that used to walk with me for the same portion of my journey every day that ended up being a girl dog and her puppies then followed me too; and the classic construction workers that would occasionally whoop! and holler when I walked by until one day I stood in front of the "building" they were working on (probably STILL working on it) and, in their language (little did they know I'd been studying and practising), asked them to come down and speak to me...then, no more cat calls...sorted!
anyway, the senses. pretty damn powerful.

3) hugs make me uncomfortable most times. i give the coldest hugs
4) crying is my favorite passtime
5) i hate player haters

have i told you lately how much my 'family' drives me insane?

i just said i was working the night my mom wants everyone to go out for supper ("but i can't pay for everyone, do you still want to come?") for my little bro's barfday, she asked if i could switch shifts, i said no. and don't get me wrong, i'd ~like~ to go for dinner, but i don't think it's entirely appropriate this early in the game to be switching shifts because of a birthday party (i just started there less than three months ago).

wait for it. wait for it....
oh! there it is!

she then gets all sullen and defeated and says 'i have to go now. bye."

and that's that.

why don't i want to spend time with them? hmmmm...

taghurt - sorta like yoghurt but without the 'y' and the 'o'

so, Himbly tags me to write five weird things about myself...

first thought: i'm not weird!
second thought: oh yah, wait, i am...shit! Only FIVE?!

i'll be like her (that freak bitch *poke*) and just write mine as they pop into my head. unlike himbly: mine are prolly lame

one: I still make a little squiggle on the top right hand corner of an envelope before i stick a stamp over it. I think it relates back to something I read when I was a kid about women? girls? confined in a prison or camp or hiding or something like that. Anyway, this person eventually escaped and it was due in part by an extremely
clever, bold and daring clue on their most recent arrival of an envelope/parcel. The recipient's address was skewed ever so slightly to point to the stamp, and under the stamp was a clue that led to their escape.

Something like this:
maybe not so obvious...I just made this quickly, but I wanted to have this thought visualized.

two: When I go into a new building, house, band venue, hotel, etc. (basically, ~inside~) I instinctively always look for exits: How many are there, where are they located, what are they located near, etc.). This aids in my never-ending adventures of Smoke Bombing. And also, I've always been terrified of being trapped inside a burning building - a.k.a. escape route.

(Smoke Bomb clarification: I'm bored, tired, have something better to do, hate you, just don't wanna be at this place at this particular time, etc.).

three: no matter what the movie is or how much I want to see it - if it's playing in a theatre, it's on TV or at home, - if I miss the start of a movie I will not stay to watch it. I don't like missing dialogue, the filmography, something that's integral to the movie...nothing. Hence, I'm usually WELL-prepared for any movie-watching, which also includes arriving on time (which ~could~ segue into another weird thing about me, but it's not that weird, so I'll just mention it here: I get QUITE agitated with people when they are late, make me late or cause any lateness that I am a part of.)

four: i like bugs and snakes and rats and 'piders

five: Synchronicity: with many things, spirits, buildings, people and even myself. To explain further is a completely new story...actually, completely new blog! So, I leave it at that.

Five.
*wiping hands off* DONE!

I tag thee, Ming

Just got off the phone with one of my work colleagues and he said: You make people feel better after talking to them: I always walk away from our conversations with a smile.

These are things I do not like right now:
- Calgary and it's smoke-free by January 2008 bullshit. HELLO?! Isn't the rest of Alberta, nay Canada, practically smoke-free already? Why are we waiting for another two years?!! Oh, but I forgot patios are smoke-free - good thing in the WINTER!
How did I used to like those places that smell up your hair and make your lungs seize up, your throat go dry, leave every article of clothing you have on reeking of cigarette smoke? How did I used to smoke?! Mind you, it was fairly innocuous...the small amount that I did. But I did do harm to those around me and to me. At least I was courteous
and didn't smoke at a table of non-smokers, I didn't smoke in front of people that didn't...ESPECIALLY children. Oh how I hate the casualities of that little war.

Whoa. Rant OVER. This was meant to be a list not a purge.

Okay...

- the Mainstream.
- that piercing squeal of small children

- people with no souls
- cowards...if you are one: Go and face up to whatever or whoever you are avoiding. Do it now!
- Stephen Harper's Lego hair

- apathy
- my day job
- certain people that I shouldn't dislike, but I do
- people that complain, but don't offer solutions or suggestions
- ebayers who rip people off
- mean people
- stuff I missed out on
- spyware and the assfaces that create it

These are things that I do like right now:
- my cats
- my new house, although the backend of it is very cold in the minuses
- the Red Cross
- people who shake the system
- music...all the music I have in my collection and all the music I haven't discovered yet
- independence
- the cheap Hungarian wine that Himbly and I discovered a few years ago...I have other people hooked on it now
- cheese

It seems I can't avoid this for too much longer. With only a few hours left in the hol-i-day I have managed to almost completely avoid blogdom.
Don't even want to mention last night.

I'll be glad when everyone can focus on something else.
*all the sheep in the barn say: Baaaaaaaa!*

Which reminds me of a 'joke':
How do you get a hundred Canadians out of the pool?

"HEY! Get out of the pool!"

See, we Canardians are sometimes referred to as rather lackadaisical and without a backbone, without a thought of our own. We just listen to whatever anyone tells us to do, follow along, don't make any ~waves~ and don't (ABOVE ALL) question anything.

*HONK!*

Are how SOME Canadians are perceived. There are others, there are those that do question, that do speak out, that do make a difference...for the good of our communities, our country...even our world. It seems they are few and far between though: I'm sad to say. They are, unfortunately, out numbered by the beasts, by selfishness, by cowardice and by your neighbours. But damn the good ones stand out.

Once again my discursiveness has got the best of me. And I've only partially touched the surface of the proverbial iceberg.
