i 'borrowed' this clever little Johari window personality-detector from Himbly - [I did also enter my criteria in hers] ... won't you tell me which words potently and accurately describe me ...

YAY!

Boo rules!

APPARENTLY, there's some new rule that only grandparents and siblings of the newborn are allowed in to the new-baby ward at the hospital; ergo, Auntie Ren ain't going. Booooo!!!! Hisssss!
So, brudder sent me a pic with his camera phone!!! Her is all cute and squishy.
I'm not a baby-person...I don't get all goo-goo ga-ga and get twinges in my ovaries. I don't wax poetic about new a life on the planet. I don't need to hold them or do whatever you do with babies... but the rules kinda shift a tad when it's a niece (second niece!). But just a tad. I like it better when they can talk and go to the toilet on their own.
But I am looking forward to when they all go home and I can visit...at least they don't have stupid rules in their home.

Then I find out an old friend died ... my brudder is closer to him than I am...I think he saw him as a father figure. He lived in B.C. I lived with him and his son (all roommate-based) for a few months before I took off for New Zealand. Nice guy, VERY rough around the edges, stubborn, had his way of doing things, liked playing with people's heads and laughing about it (nothing ever mean)...just being a little trickster. Tough cookie...but all soft and gooey on the inside. (Just like my older brother)
He hanged himself. His son is here...going out there in a few days...didn't say much about the note, but brudder said he'd tell me more when he hears more. (I'm glad my bro has new baby to at least absorb the shock for a bit. we'll have to talk soon.)
*sigh*

My cat went into hypoglycemic shock today. I've seen it in humans before, but not to this extent, plus they were either old people or autistic and it was difficult to notice right away in the elder folk, as they had multi-system things going on and the autistic fella I used to work with was super easy to detect the signs and symptoms as he got aggressively physical and he'd literally turn into a different person...but all you'd have to do is stuff cheese and fruit in his mouth or give him peanut butter and bread and he was instantly better.
BUT seeing my almost 15-year-old cat (otherwise in great health and very spry and perky for her age) bump into walls and mewling and not connecting my voice with anything and completely disoriented was a completely different story. YIKES! I immediately mixed some sugar with water and siphoned it into and a syringe to squirt in her mouth, but that had no effect. So, I ran to the store* to get some honey. The effect was instantaneous; thank you bees!!! The honey, followed by water and bits of food and lots of TLC and she's herself again. Vet just said to keep my eye on her. I'm actually kinda scared to giver her her insulin again.

* I never quite know if I'm surprised or sadly aware of how predictably obtuse people can be. While I was in line to get honey for SUPER ILL CAT, this customer-woman-person was all snarky at the cashier because she didn't know when the next sale of her favourite juice would be on sale, then her bitter tone escalated when she wasn't given some scratch-ticket-promotion thingee, which the cashier said were given out according to how much a person spent - she obviously didn't spend enough. She huffed off muttering: "Well, that's all you had to say.." (whatever that meant). The cashier and I said nothin, but we both rolled our eyes and smiled. I secretly hoped the cashier had lied just to keep a potential winning scratchy thing from the mean lady.

Then, when I get home there's a message saying my brother's new baby was just born!! I'm an Auntie again...yay! It's a girl! I tried calling my brother and the mom, but they neither of them answered. So, I got back to studying....
*awaiting call from big brudder with more details*

wonder how long it'll take 'us' to destroy or rape this place and its creatures

Milo keeps cranking the heat up. QUITE frustrating, especially the late-night wake ups because I'm suffocating from the heat.

Old job did absolutely nothing in the way of saying thanks for everything, you're swell, I'll miss you ... nothing short of a line of text in an email sent to clients, etc. introducing new person: "CE is replacing Renee who will be working for [new job]." And a casual, handshake with encouraging words for the future in the form of "good luck", "thanks for growing the company with me...go save lives and make the world a better place" and an offer for him to sign a letter of recommendation that I was to write...I said forget about it.
I even agreed to stay two weeks longer to train new person sufficiently. I ran this place when he wasn't here. We got along famously. He could always count on me.
I don't get it. A crap email, not even a damn lunch or a bottle of wine.
Made me feel rather worthless for all the time I'd given there. As in every aspect of my life, I am loyal to the core, thorough, attentive, reliable, hard-working. So, it was difficult to walk away holding my head high when such a huge part of my life didn't even recognize that.
That's gratitude for ya, kids.

Calgary is so dry - HOW DRY IS IT? that my contact lenses were stuck to my eyeball last night. Well, it felt like they were. Then I remembered I hadn't been putting water in the humidifier... but STILL, Calgary IS dry.

wow...complain-y

losing our identity

The Hudson's Bay Company, a 336-year-old cultural icon, the oldest and largest company in Canadian history, was sold last month to an American company.

Fairmont Hotels, which traces its origins back to the historic Canadian Pacific Railway hotel chain, has been acquired by Saudi prince Alwaleed bin Talal (the world's fifth-richest person) and U.S. property magnate Thomas Barrack in a $3.9-billion US deal.

It's already hard enough to succinctly identify Canadian CULTURE, let alone capture anything these days that's even vaguely reminiscent of something Canadian.

And to add insult to injury, we now have Harper as a leader.

Through a search of family history (not me, someone else who had lots of free time) it was discovered that I am the sixth cousin of Sir John A MacDonald. Not sure what to do with that.
