VOLUNTEERiNG

For every hour of volunteer work that I've been putting in for Disaster Relief with the Red Cross, it gets me one more step further to my goal of being an International Delegate.

If you didn't know, I've wanted to work with the Red Cross since I was a wee lass...for Disaster Relief Services as overseas personnel. I'm truly hoping that my experiences in life - be they personal, volunteering or work - my education (esp. current education) and training will one day have me working in this area with the
International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

movies with subtitles

Am I alone on this one? I prefer to watch ALL movies with subtitles on.
I'm more of a visual person and viewing words as they are spoken enhances my absorption, not to mention holding my attention (ADD)
I wish people came with subtitles...

I'm going to buy some of the wristbands to give out...please let me know if you want one.

scared. hold me...

buddy's FAQ:
Question: Are you trying to pick up men?
Answer: NO. No interest here at all. I think it's my admiration for women's glamour that drives me to dress me up like a woman.

do women do this kind of thing? why is it that some men want to be women and will go to great lengths (even painful surgery and emotional trauma) to be one? are there women out there purposefully hacking off their breasts and getting penile implants and wearing suits and overalls and buying Old Spice?

is it cuz boys were once girls until the chromosomes split?

crabs and lobsters

i'm vegetarian and never preach or rudely dispel my beliefs onto anyone eating flesh near me, but i haveto admit i can't sit at the same table with someone eating lobsters and crabs. the ripping of limbs from their poor wee dead bodies and the cracking, gnashing and sucking noises almost make me wanna crawl outta my own skin *shudder*. When I decided to become a vegetarian, creatures from the sea were the first thing to go...although, I barely wanted to eat anything from the ocean to begin with.

today i watched big ole crabs in a tank at the chinese market i go to near downtown. they were literally PILED inside, i wonder if the guys on the bottom were even alive. one of them was clambering over the rest of them, 'standing' on his back legs and stretching with his front legs, reaching out of the water. i think he was trying to escape. if i had a tank i would have bought him.

I'm actually buzzing right now...I've been speaking with one of the founders of the Afghanistan women's organization (referring to previous post); we had an excellent talk and we were discussing our synchronicity stories and people and the organization and everything in between. And I'm attending an upcoming presentation sponsored through this organization and she mentioned a woman I "have to" speak to, who's basically doing exactly what I want to be doing - working with and for women in third world countries.
The buzz is because something has actually been MISSING from my life and I realized just now what it is...I haven't been volunteering since last year and after speaking with Janice, I and getting involved, I feel all invigoraty again! So much of my time had been consumed by work and school that I neglected that one part of my life that is so valuable to me.

Here are some words that were used to scour the internet and my blog was hit several times. (it's from my site meter...it tells me what people typed into search engines to get to my page...)
I’ve extrapolated on a few as they weren’t obvious to me why my blog was included in a search engine find.

BUMPER STiCKERS

On my way home from work yesterday, I was behind an SUV (of course, with ONE person in it...but I digress) that had on it two bumper stickers:
STOP! and praise the Lord
Elect Jesus to be your King.
*stare*
*blink*
Do Christians get to ~elect~ a King?
*blink*
Okay, someone made that sticker...and worse yet, someone bought it.

Hey kids,
I've signed up for an international CD swap that will be fulla summer tunes from a stranger somewhere else in this world. And yours gets sent to someone too! You make two CDs of summer tunes (can be a copy), they each get sent to someone else and you receive one new/burned CD from two other people. Phun!!

Click the link above if you're interested (they don't release any of your personal info or sell to anyone else). I remember doing this in grade school with tapes (showing my age, for sure) that we sent to other kids in Australia, who then became our pen pals. It was none of the cyber stuff of chat rooms and email these days, it was good ol' fashioned hand writing and recording songs from radio and turntables...yikers. Here's a couple other link to the organizers of this summertime fun. Nearly 900 people have already signed up! Woooooooooo!

I sure do love Clean Sheet Day!
I've always had this little dilemna with myself about whether I should fold the sheets well...or just fold them. I mean, they're prolly filed away in a linen closet, right? Who really cares, right? But the Folding Princess within me usually wins and I ~try~ to fold the snuggy sheet properly and inevitably fail miserably because the elasticized corners always foul things up - so, I just do a couple tucks here and creative folds there and be done with it.
I think I mentioned this to momsie once and last night in a "bag of things you might like to have" there it was, this scrap of paper solving my lifelong sheet crisis.

Oh, and also, to prove how much of a pack rat my mom is, she handed me a little box (like jewellry-size) with an elastic around it. And she's laughing. I roll my eyes and mutter: "Oh, gawd...what's this?" All she could do was laugh... Okay, so, inside...was my old RETAINER!!! As in, the after-braces appliance from when I was like 12! You know you're a pack rat when...
And no, it didn't fit anymore.
:)
