phucking phones

explain to me when, exactly when, we stopped ignoring the bleating, incessant tones permeating through conversations, business meetings and social events...when did we choose to ignore the person right in front of us to answer the phone????
that caller didn't take the time to go to your home to visit, they didn't interrupt their day to meet with you, they didn't schedule a time with you, blah blah blah
can't you call them back? they'll leave a message, i promise.
i heard a discussion on CBC the other day about cell phones and etiquette. one woman (fantastic Parisian accent) insists her guests turn off their phones when they are in her home as they are there for her company and vice versa and those precious moments should not be stolen by technological chatter. hardcore, but i like her style. my favourite uncle gets visibly upset if people answer their phones when he's talking with them. i agree, i think it's rude.
i guess that's why i don't always answer the phone...i'm paying attention to someone else already
